Again earthquake in Japan - 2012, 1 Jan

The (USGS) U.S. Geological Survey  have reports a magnitude 6.8 earthquake in the southern  part of Japan on Sunday January 1, 2012  approximately at  5:28 UTC (12:28 p.m.in CST in central U.S.A). There has been no reports of the damage or casualties so far, and there is  no tsunami warning is issued.

Japan’s Meteorological Agency(JMA) said that the buildings swayed in Tokyo, which, as above data shows, that was 495 km (308 miles) from the place of quake’s epicenter. It is also said that the quake measured 4 in central Tokyo, Fukushima and other surrounding areas in  Japanese intensity scale, which is used to measures ground motion.

Japan is located along Pacific “ring of fire,”which is one of the world’s most the seismically active areas in the world. Many of the media sources this morning are saying the country accounts for 20% total world’s earthquakes of magnitude 6 or a greater (I’m not sure where that figure came from).

Northeastern part of the Japan was devastated early on March 11, 2011 by an massive 9.0 magnitude earthquake along with tsunami that taken more than 20,000 people dead or missing.
Bottom line:  magnitude 6.8 earthquake was struck off the coast of southern part of the  Japan on January 1, 2012. There is no reports and information about injuries or damages and there is no tsunami warning has been issued so far.
